The purpose of providing psychological support to the people receiving in vitro fertilization treatment is to stop the negative effect caused by the infertility problem in the mental life and interpersonal relations of the person. Psychiatric treatments can be classified as medicine treatments, individual psychotherapies and group therapies. Medicine treatment is not preferred with the people as the pregnancy expectation and achieved pregnancy hinder use of medicine. Group therapy is a technique to enable the person to understand his or her feelings and attitude better, to make him or her to cope better with the feelings of loneliness and not being understood. The works done indicate that group therapy increases the number of eggs in women.

The psychotherapy treatment applied in the Maya In Vitro Fertilization Center is in the form of group therapy consisting of 8-12 people. Women and men are put into different groups. Group therapies are conducted in the way of “open group”; in other words persons leaving the group are replaced with another person, or people can re-join the group after a while. It is recommended to attend 4-5 sessions to benefit from the therapy. The technique of the applied group therapies focus on these basic points:

• To work on the details of the in vitro fertilization treatment,
• To deal with the exhaustion feelings in the couple that can be caused by the recurring in vitro fertilization treatment,
• To deal in detail with the causes of infertility,
• To deal with the conflicts or disputes with the marriage and/or larger family.
• Feeling of loneliness of the people with the similar problems, having emotional support from each other.

Except these optional group therapies, each individual in our center is evaluated with psychiatric tests. If detailed session is deemed necessary after the test results the couples are assessed individually, again upon their request, and psychiatric treatment is advised before the in vitro fertilization treatment.
