Maya In Vitro Fertilization Centre cooperates with the Municipality of Altındağ and takes the first step of a family health project on infertility regarding a major part of the society.
Infertility concerns about 2,5 million couple that is five million people in Turkey. The number of people seeking medical solution to this problem is around 150.000 people/year in 2007. In vitro fertilization treatment has been applied to around 40.000 of the applications. Despite all efforts shown and developments obtained throughout Turkey, there are still serious problems in our country in family health matters especially reproductive health. Among these problems, the leading one is many superstitions and wrong information on the infertility concept and its treatment.
The followings are aimed with the training and screening activities to be held between October 30, 2008 and March 2009:
- Changing the negative value judgments on infertility and treatment methods and reducing the problems faced by the infertile couples in society;
- Increasing the number of men and women, influential family members and opinion leaders who think that infertility is a curable health problem;
- In parallel with the educations, correctly determining the medical status of the couples by the free of charge infertility screening and informing the couples;
- Improving the social and psychological conditions of the infertile couples and preventing domestic physical and psychological violence;
- Decreasing the number of genetic miscarriages, stillbirths and babies with determinable genetic transitive diseases;
- Increasing the awareness of the families with children and thus preventing their children to become infertile due to preventable causes in the future.
